Greetings!

This just in from the "Man, You Shoulda Been There" Department, Ron "Mister Big" Wheeler and I were among the fortunate few to squeeze into the ornate but tiny performance space at the Columbus Music Hall the other night for a great show by Texas singer-songwriter Guy Clark. You folks know that I've had a handful of Guy Clark's meticulously-crafted songs in my set list for years, and it was a huge treat to have another opportunity to hear this national treasure perform them himself. I stole the photo on this page from the Columbus Dispatch web site, and in exchange for the favor I am not going to lambaste them for misidentifying Guy's able sideman for the concert (photo, left) as "Ferlin" Thompson. The man's name is Verlon Thompson, and he's no slouch, either. I may even add his tune, "I Ain't Been Everywhere...Yet" to my song list, if only to irritate Langs.

Hey, I'm still waiting for the new 12-string to arrive from California, but I did find a photo on the web of a very similar, albeit right-handed, instrument. Pretty, ain't it? ETA for the new guitar is late April, which means I'll be showing it off at the next Sports on Tap show on May 14.

Speaking of Sports on Tap, I want to thank everybody who stopped out in March to hear me play. Looks like this little corner bar may end up being a regular gig for me, and that's just fine. As much as I appreciate everybody's generosity, though, I may need to cap the tequila consumption at just six or eight shots next time. Jeez...

One last thing before I go -- I've got some studio time scheduled with Larry Wolkan of Jazz Ethics to record a couple of my songs for entry in the Telluride Troubadour competition. Though I have never viewed music as a competitive endeavor, this would be a pretty cool opportunity to play on a big stage for some new folks, so wish me luck and all that. That event would coincide with the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado this June. I'll let you know how it goes.

Stay in touch, keep an eye on the calendar, and we'll see you at the bar!

Thanks,
